Ambrose Bierce
This video is based on the Ambrose Bierce's masterpiece, "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge," which i wanted to introduce as the great short story contained the historical background.
Mostly, writers put themselves to the characters on their works. At least, writers try for putting the background to their characters. Ambrose Bierce who was the writer took part in the Civil War depicted nightmarish experience of wartime as a work.Like his most of works, this short story draw the dying person by a War. At first, the story started the scene that Peyton Farquhar whose hands and legs are tied up waited for hanging. I couldn't know the reason why waiting for hanging is the character's destiny. The only thing i should do was that seeing that being wound rope on the neck. The solders came next to him and put him to plywood. The edge of the plywood is connected to stream bank beneath a bridge.On the opposite way of the plywood, the officer stands. Like the principle of level, if that is not balanced, for the weight of the character, the plywood will bend and he will float on the stream with hanging neck. Everything was ready. Peyton even can see every moments for dying. He immediately saw the flowing stream under his legs. When he stared the flowing river water with tranquil atmosphere, he heard the loud sound of gun. That is the sign that means that start the execution of him. However, he even thought that the death is not coming soon, he got more nervous. At that time, the officer gave a soldier sign, the officer stepped back quietly. Obviously, he sinked into the water.
The scene just changed for a while. Peyton enjoyed his time in his garden. He has the afternoon with his wife. He is an idelogist of ecdysis now, he participated the politics of North Americans. At that time, the soldier riding a horse asked him for sip. He and his wife came into their kitchen with the think that they can help the soldier. Peyton alluded how the war is going on. Soldier told them the South military advanced to Owl Creek Bridge, and they are rebuilding the bridge and fixing some fortress. And the people who tried to go nearby there would be get hanged by the instructions. When the soldier said there is only one soldier in the end of the bridge, Peyton told him that for passing that bridge, he should suppress only one,smiling. Soldier sipped and drew back. However, on night, the soldier came back the house that he stayed for a while. Because he was the scout of the Allied Forces of the north.
It seems that because of his jovial jokking, and the facts that he is from south, he is captured by them. And the scene after this is the part that the writer stopped before. He got suffered from the painful suffer by the upstream. The soldiers shot him. While he was trying for undoing tied hands and legs, he demostrated demoniac energy. He undid the thick strings and excaped the opposite side. He walked blankly, thinking it is miracle. However, he fell with a thud. He met again most dramatically with his wife's smile. It was all allusion of Peyton. Already, after falling from sideboard, his neck got broken and he was feeling the most painful pain right before the death.

1. a) Which main topic does the artifact relate to? In what ways?
The main information of the author Ambrose Bierce is related to the human expression through the Arts. He is called virtuoso as a writer. As i wrote on this artifact, Mostly, writers put themselves to the characters on their works. At least, writers try for putting the background to their characters. In that sense, his workers reflected the background which was the Civil war. And, I think that he reflected the bloddy circumstances to his works. Not only the An Occurence at The Owl Creek Bridge, most of his workers reflected the circumstances. As the soldier who took part in the War, this short story can be the most vivid impressive work. I think this is the genuine human expression through the Arts.

The gender discrimination which was common in 19th century can be appeared. Only the main character told something to the soldier. Can the wife of Peyton say that joke to him? Well, How dare she? to the soldier? It may be impossible. Something like that implies the difference between the man and woman of that period.

While i was organizing about the Civil War to my idea pages, the year of Civil had just reminded me Ambrose Bierce. I did know this short story. And, I think like this short story can be real works of human expression. And, i would like to mention that Arts cannot just defined the drawing stuffs. Literature can be the best expression. I acturally spent 4 hours or so for creating this artifact. I read the story again and tried to understand everything. And, i did some research for better organization(Linked websites).

As i mentioned the end of the story instroduction part, in this story, the kindness came back to him as hanging which is horrible. I do understand in this Civil War, the promotion of the soldier or the sacrifice of enemy troops should be the first, even though someone had mercy to them. In that sense, the war cannot be accepeted the principle of reciprocity. Vivid circumstances of the bloddy war were well described.

I think it is not the best work. But, at least good work. Because, i did read my story again and tried for better organization. And it took too much time to summarize on my own words and my aspect. Although my english is not still enough, i hope my meanings that i was going to put were well expressed.
