Case study #2 American Dream - Artifact 9 (Student free choice- Civil war)

Through the Civil War of US, the economic development had led the US, supporting by Northern area.
Especially, about the industrial development led America be modern. By the Industrial base, the Industrial revolution of US was accelerated. If there was not any industrial development, America may not have dignity that the country has now. As the impact of the Industrial Revolution to UK, accelerating industrial revolution made many changes. Including expansion of the transportation, accelerating production can also be said that those caused present America.
Not only the economic system, the American Civil War also forced political development. By the comparing powerful parties of North and South, the political system was about to change. At last, by the victory of North, the political feature of the U.S which was based on a region appeared in the history of the America. So we called, the representative of American politics started to state on the history. That's why people say that the Civil War has formed the politics system.

Basically, the arguments between slaves and themself can be said that contributing the development of America on my thought. How many countries still have a slavery? In the other words, how many countries has still  been ignored the rights of human in 21th century?
Yes, Slaves are the most tragic crisis of our human society. Why ?
Can a slavery be affected to the development of the certain country? That could be. However, that cannot be affected in blind developement of a certain country. Only by the hard work of many immigrants who came with the American Dream, the country could be developed as well. Substantially, that caused cultural difference. That had been caused the cultural lag. Without the workers of the other countries, the work that the workers had done can't be achieved anymore. That's why the country needs some own workers. That can force the pattern of low efficiency and high expenditure. However, the new workers can not totally understand the work that had been done by many immigrants. Then, the cultural rag had been happened.
How can the historical war be remembered to the Americans?

The war is the reason why they can still be alive without any pains. (For Americans)

1) Through the music still be remembered to the Americans.

Guns N' Roses - Civil War

"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N' I don't like it any more than you men." *

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

"We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer" **

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway

2) Through the movie the war is still remembered.

#1 Glory

In this movie, the class of different colors can contain the real social aspect. The military full of African Americans has some white americans who were in high classes of the military. The argument and conflict between African Americans or by themselves got harmony, However, the conflict between White American and African American was irreconcilable. While the conflicts happened, that shows many racial discriminations which contained real social aspect. In my opinion, the Civil war through this movie has special meaning. You knew what? The Civil War was the last war which used classical way of combat. On the other hand, because of the appearance of machine gun, that is called the beginning of the modern war. As I found whenver they had a battle, they mainly used muzzle-loading gun, including a rifle and cannon. How does the military full of the African American sound?

#2 Gone with the Wind

Gone with the wind
"I never be hungry again"

"Dreams, dreams always dreams with you, never common sense."

This movie contained the social aspect as well as the Glory. In this movie, The North before the Civil War was wonderful land which the customs and tradition were existed while the civilization was severed. However, a slavery caused directly to the War. The end of the 19th century, North Georgia state was set as a stage which can show the reality that was trampled by the Civil War. The movie drew the life of a woman called Scarlet O"Hara. By the background of the period of reconstruction, This movie shows the love and life. A woman lived the turbulent era and the movie shows her life in-depth realistically. The whirlwind made her lose her family, love, even pride. And that brought up the change of a woman.

After all... tomorrow is another day.

 - Reflection

1. a) Which main topic does the artifact relate to? In what ways?
This artifact is related to the class consciousness. Slavery is related to the racism. As I explained, the slavery caused cultural lag. That is basically based on the consciousness.
b) Which other main topics does it also relate to?
This artifact is also related to Urbanization (Construction of modern city) and building the modern economy. I wanted to express the change through the Civil War to America. In some ways, the Civil War established a foothold as I expressed above. You might be doubtful about that where I got these ideas. However, I spent my time thinking about the influence of the Civil War. It is my own idea about Civil War as a student learning the Civil War. And, not only those ways, but the Civil War is still remembered various ways. Some people might think that the Civil War brought the realistic damage such as death, poor surroundings. As we can see different sides of stuffs, the Civil War can be thought on different aspects.
2. Why did you choose this artifact, and how much time did you spend creating and or processing it?
First of all, I do try to express the changes brought by the Civil war. Of course, I learned how the Civil War is related to the other incidents happend to America. However, there was no certain answers what the Civil War brought and how this history is remained. Well, I didn't actually count how much I spent thinking about the slavery(racism). Without doubt, I did enjoy the time. As I introduced the anecdote(with Sullivan Ballou's letter), I was eager for understanding the soldier's saying. And, I didn't notice that his saying left that much lingering imagery. It was not the top 10 movie's quotes or top 10 lyrics. From then, slavery forced me to organize this artifact.
3.What insights and understanding have you gained from the creation and/or processing of this artifact?
People might think that the American Civil War brought fatal effects. Well, that cannot be concluded that that is not true. There is every evidence that the Civil War brought victims directly. On the other aspects, it can be true that Civil War becomes the sideboard to the development of the America. I do hope that through my portfolio, people can notice there can be more meanings implied by the Civil War.
I do understand that the cultural lag came out from the Civil War. Even though I didn't copy or search any ideas about that, I am pretty sure about that.
4.Does this artifact reflect your best work and/or ideas? Why, or why not?
I think I tried as much as possible to think in right way. I am not still sure that cultural lag came out after the Civil War. However, I do think that there are pretty aspects of good effect of the Civil War. I tried to express that.
5.Rate this artifact on a scale of -5 to 5(0 is neutral) for the following 4 criterion:
a) Impact on the quality of your Portfolio 4
I think the perfect portfolio cannot be consisted of the general stuffs. Someone might already think about the cultural lag. However, this is my idea. And, I do like the uniqueness
b)Impact on your level of happiness/enjoyment 4 I like thinking about the history :D I did enjoy the time.
c)Impact on your learning 2 The problem(?) of my uniqueness is that I'm not actually sure about that.
I think it would be better if I searched the facts of the effects to the America.
d)Level of creativity and originality 5!
6.Any additional commencts.
Thank you so much.
